Art Studio at Triton & Shell

Table of Contents

At Triton & Shell, our studio is a vibrant, shared space where the spirit of handmade paper, conservation, and book arts comes to life.

Fully equipped for handmade papermaking and archival material conservation, our studio welcomes artists, conservators, bookbinders, calligraphers, researchers, and creators, offering a dynamic environment for learning, creativity, and collaboration.

Our facilities support the application of both traditional techniques and contemporary experimentation, bridging historical knowledge with modern innovation.

Conservation and Bookbinding

Our conservation workshop undertakes the preservation and restoration of archival materials, works of art on paper, photographs, and books.

Among our collaborations are: the Chios Mastic Museum (Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation), the Holy Monastery of the Dormition of the Theotokos Penteli, the Archivio Storico Comune di San Gemini, and several notable private collectors and family archives.

Some of the most significant works we have conserved include pieces by artists such as Giovanni Francesco Barbieri (1591–1666), Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (1606–1669), and Hendrick Krock (1671–1738).

The workshop is coordinated by Andreas Fatouros, with scientific collaborator Dr. Konstantinos Choulis, and permanent partner conservator Eleftheria Papaefstathiou.

Triton & Shell also houses part of the equipment of Evangelia Biza, one of the most prominent figures in Greek artistic bookbinding. Her workshop, which operated for 15 years on Kallidromiou Street in Exarchia, found its new home within our space in 2023.

Handmade Paper

Our papermaking studio produces professional handmade papers of special specifications.

We use traditional raw materials such as cotton, flax, hemp, abaca, and recycled fabrics, combined with high-quality deionized water, to create neutral pH, long-lasting papers.

Our papers are intended for artists, calligraphers, photographers, publishers, bookbinders, conservators, and museums.

At the same time, we experiment with new fibers and natural pigments, collaborating with artists to create works where paper serves not just as a substrate but as a living medium of expression.

Services

  • Custom Handmade Paper: We create custom handmade papers tailored to your specific needs — raw materials, dimensions, thickness, texture, color, and watermarks.
  • Studio Rental: We offer artists the opportunity to use our papermaking workshop to create their own works, with advisory support for optimal realization of their ideas.

At Triton & Shell, paper is not just a medium — it is a journey of craftsmanship, memory, and creation.

We invite you to create, conserve, and explore with us.
